Okay, so I did the first round of edits for the first volume and realized something - I can't squeeze the story into only five volumes. If I did that, I would end up with massive 200,000 word, 2k page light novels.
And I don't think people would lug around those kinds of tomes. Kinda large for a "light" novel, amirite?
So instead, I'm breaking it down to roughly 40 chapters per volume. That equates to roughly 80 - 90k words per volume, which is about 1,000 pages. And this amounts to about 10 volumes all told.
EDIT: Changed from bunkobon format to paperback, which brought page count down from 770ish to 390ish.
Not entirely sure how to proceed exactly, as that might result in choppy volumes. But I've sent an email over to Yen Press to hopefully chat with someone in more detail about this.
I'll definitely be updating once a week on here just to fill you all in on what's going on and give whatever progress I've made.
